Bike Corral Applications for Vanderbilt Avenue

When:  Wednesday, May 14, 6:30 PM

Where: Branded Saloon, 603 Vanderbilt Avenue

Community members are invited to attend a meeting to learn more about proposed bike corrals on Vanderbilt Avenue. A bike corral is an innovative new approach to bicycle parking in which racks are clustered in the street.  Corrals are requested by Vanderbilt businesses that will maintain the space; however, the racks are not limited to patrons of those businesses. Bike corrals are a good solution for streets like Vanderbilt Avenue, where demand for bike parking outstrips availability and bikes can often clutter sidewalks. You can read more about bike corrals on NYC DOT’s website.

77th Precinct Community Council Meeting

When: Monday, May 12, 7:30 PM
Where: CNR- Center Light Nursing – 727 Classon Avenue (Park Place)

The 77th Precinct’s monthly Community Council meeting is an opportunity for community members to meet with Commanding Officer Eddie Lott and other officers from our local precinct to discuss public safety and policing issues in the neighborhood.  Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at rotating locations within the precinct. The next meeting will take place on Monday, May 12 at 7:30 pm.

Park Place-Underhill Avenue Block Party

When: Saturday, May 10, 11-4 pm
Where: Park Place between Vanderbilt and Underhill

Prospect Heights neighbors are welcome to the Park Place-Underhill Avenue block party this Saturday, where the street will be closed for kids to ride bikes, jump rope and enjoy the open space.  A plant sale, used book fair, bake sale and bbq are also part of this annual event. BikeNY will be offering a clinic on learning to ride a bike from 2-4 PM; double dutch jump rope lessons will be from 1-3.

Street Tree Task Force asks you to lend a hand

In the last five years, the volunteers in the Prospect Heights Street Tree Task force have stepped up to maintain the health of our street trees by pruning trees, enriching soil and mulching beds.

But the Street Tree Task Force cannot continue to provide the same level of tree care to our neighborhood street trees without additional support from our neighbors.

There are many ways you can become involved.  If you are a member of a block or merchant association please encourage one of your members to join the Task Force’s steering committee. If you are not affiliated with an association why not become a steering committee member yourself and help guide our course of action for this year.  By partnering with the Street Tree Task Force, you will ensure that our neighborhood’s trees receive the care and attention they need to survive and even flourish!

You can reach the Street Tree Task Force at  phstreettrees@gmail.com or telephone Bob Biegen at 718-789-2469.  With your help our tree care program will continue.
